In this course we focus on the essential understandings of what your baby’s priorities are and how to support those priorities while also ourselves. For couples, I highly recommend pairing it with the Equal Parenting+ workshop (online) that is offered later in the same week for a comprehensive preparation of the coming months.
How did I choose these topics as the most important for families preparing to welcome a baby? After working with new families and babies for the past 6 years, it is very clear to me that what helps the most is understanding what is normal for babies. So much of what we are shown via media about babies is not actually the truth for the average baby. Your baby would love for you to know what a real, normal baby wants and needs from you.
The course is fun, interactive, and social. You will get to know each other, and ask all your questions. This is a genderless workshop and all families are welcome.
Understanding how newborns sleep, and what you can expect. Tips for how to balance baby’s sleep with your needs. I will share my knowledge from my IPSP Newborn Sleep Certification. (This will not be sleep coaching/training tips, but rather about supporting sleep.)
Baby development 101. We will learn about newborn development, needs, secure attachment, & triadic synchrony. What does a day with a baby look like realistically? Why do they cry and how can we reduce crying?
Babies worn in slings and carriers cry less, statistically speaking. Also, it's how you get your hands free to take care of yourself! We will cover a full tutorial on how to use a carrier ergonomically and easily, as well as cover tips for troubleshooting. You will then have time to try out different styles of carriers w/ demo dolls. I will help you figure out what style carrier is best for your family.
